the machines are coming

The Machines Are Coming is an installation of hand-formed pecan shell sculptures that references women-led labor movements, with a primary focus on the 1938 San Antonio pecan shellers’ strike. The work considers histories of labor, collective resistance, and the often-invisible work of women in industrial and domestic economies.

The installation is composed of an accumulating field of sculptural pecan forms that can be arranged in multiple configurations depending on the exhibition environment.
